Jensen''s Marina on Captiva Has Fun With Shrimp: Old Time Florida Baid Shop Humor

I never would have thought buying some live shrimp to use as bait for snook fishing would make me laugh so much.

The folks at Jensen's Resort & Marina on Captiva Island have a pretty good sense of humor when it comes to all the tall tale fishermen and tourists who come to buy their shrimp.

The first thing one notices is the skeleton with the Viking helmet which appears to have grown old while waiting for the next shipment of big shrimp.

You can't help but laugh at that one. Fishermen are always asking for big shrimp. The thinking is, the bigger the shrimp, the bigger the fish that will come along and eat it.

Therefore, anglers are always asking for bigger shrimp. So you can't blame the folks at Jensen's for having a little fun with the issue.

The next thing anglers will notice is a sign that has been gracing the bait holding tank area for years.

It features answers to many of the silly questions anglers and tourists constantly ask the marina employees as they buy their shrimp.

I remember the laughs I had the first time I saw this sign. I have to admit, I myself have asked a few of those questions when I was younger and green in the gills.

My favorite on the list is; "Yes "There is still 12 in a dozen."

Now I admit, I've never heard that response before, but I've certainly heard; "No "You can't pick them yourself."

As a matter of fact, I'm still working on that one. I keep hoping one of these days the Jensen brothers just might let me pick my own shrimp.

At least before I look like that skeleton with the Viking helmet.
